| Styled Bookshelves
Styling bookshelves can be a very daunting task. I think it's important to keep it simple and mix it up! Use a combination of books, objects, art, and photos. Personalize it!
I love this article HERE for some great advice on the topic.
The Red Vault asked some of our members for photos and styling tips. Enjoy! |

Meg Lonergan of LeSueur Interiors: "For this job we installed an aqua grasscloth behind the bookshelves which was a great way to add color and texture to the room. Layering books, photographs, art and objects is the best way to make your shelves look interesting. One tip, books don't have to only be vertical in a shelf, laying them horizontally is another way to display them."

Sally Wheat is famous for her spectacular kitchen design. Her own kitchen (on the right) has been featured in many blogs and copied over and over. She favors a clean, open shelf design to showcase collections.
The left photo shows that a dark color painted on the back of a bookshelf will make your pieces pop!

Laura Umansky of Laura U: This 1920s Spanish Revival style, multi-level home sits in the Hollywood Hills with expansive views. The house boasts rustic, beamed ceilings and doorways with dark, wood floors. We used a soft, neutral palette to counter the heavy woodwork throughout the home and incorporated colorful and whimsical accents. The study features original, built-in bookcases with colorful books and fun accessories lining the shelves. A Few Design Tips: - Create balance! Books look great lined up, but try stacking with a small accessory on top. Balance can be achieved by using books on some shelves and fun accessories on others.
- It's okay to leave some shelves empty since this will encourage your future acquisitions.
- Try grouping by color for big impact!

The Arrangement- Houston
1721 Post Oak Blvd Houston, TX 77056 713-627-9009
There is nothing more impressive than walking into a home and seeing brilliantly staged bookshelves that just take your breath away. Bookshelves should be treated as an art form. Even though they were invented for storage and functionality, they still serve as a visual display, so pay attention to them! They can absolutely transform a room.

Leslie Sinclair: Without question, the artful arrangement of a bookshelf can make or break a room's decor. Applying a finish to the shelves themselves can also add depth, character, and sophistication to a room. Whether adding simple edging details, metallic accents, or a full-blown furniture finish, these paint techniques can separate the cabinetry and shelving from the rest of the room's trim or give character to a study by enhancing the displays within.

Making abstract art is an ongoing skill for me which has been acquired over a prolonged period of time. Each canvas is a unique experience with each part of it painted or drawn to relate to the other parts of the composition and working until all of the parts work together to form one piece of art. Much of what evolves on the canvas results from personal experiences and thoughts on a subconscious level.
I love color and design and develop my art by working alla prima, working the colors wet into wet, blending as I go along to build up layers of paint and/or filling out shapes and sections of a painting. First working only with acrylic paint, I then discovered oil sticks, charcoal, graphite and collage and began to incorporate these media into many of my paintings. During the thirty years or so that I have been making abstract art, many different effects (styles) of painting have emerged. I enjoy discovery and challenge myself to go beyond what I have already achieved. Some of my paintings begin with a preset idea of what I want to accomplish while others are developed spontaneously.
