Decorating with Antiques
Decorating with Antiques can be daunting to many people. How do I mix those pieces in with new pieces and have it all blend? I personally love an eclectic look in a home. Antiques {perhaps a family heirloom} that is sentimental paired with more contemporary, and practical, pieces can be achieved.

I found this great online article below that, I think, explains perfectly how to decorate with antiques.

Have you ever wondered how to decorate with those antiques you've inherited?  Those precious pieces beloved by a grandmother or aunt that have been in the family for decades and now belong to you? Today Courtney from Courtney Out Loud is back with his monthly contribution and the topic of the day is decorating with antiques, specifically those vintage pieces handed down from previous generations. "Mixing antique and modern furniture styles helps create an individualized and multilayered room that reflects the owner's unique taste and personality. However, many people adhere to one specific style when decorating their homes. This approach is great if you are truly passionate about a particular era or genre of design, however, for the majority of homeowners they tend to be at a loss when they happen to inherit a family heirloom. How do you incorporate it into your home's personality and style? Click HERE to read the entire article.

Incorporating antiques into a home's design imparts character, charm, and history to the space. By glazing or staining an antique, you transform the piece into something that better suits your style or color scheme without losing the integrity of the antique. Alternatively, after months of looking for the perfect antique chair, chest, or door, you can always choose the perfect shape or scale of a piece whether it be old or new and then give them an age-old finish for the beautiful antique effect. Segreto Finishes has a full staff of artisans who are masters at restoration or making the new look old.

Art can be used when designing a space to add character and bring it to life. Some spaces may be inspired by a particular piece of art while others may use art as a finishing touch. No matter how it is used, art is most-times an essential part of the overall design. Featured are artworks by three artists, Natalie Davis, Saba Jawda and Heather Sanchez, all currently on exhibit in the Laura U Collection showroom.
